Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN Z-mount sample gallery: A great lens for Nikon’s APS-C cameras

The Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN is one of our favorite fast telephoto primes for APS-C mirrorless cameras. While Sony, Fujifilm, Canon, Micro Four Thirds and Leica shooters have had access to it for some time, support for the Nikon Z-mount is new this year.

This relatively small prime pairs quite nicely with the petite Nikon Z50. The lens hood is a bit bulky, though, and I didn’t use it often. In terms of image quality, the 56mm punches well above its $500 price tag. Output is very sharp across the frame. Bokeh is relatively uniform and pleasing to the eye, while aberrations and lens flare are well controlled.

Those of you who have used this lens for other systems already know this, though. So, I’ll cut more to the point: This is one of the best-performing and most sensible telephoto primes for the Nikon DX Z-mount in 2023.
