The latest AI double down comes from Adobe, which has announced that its acquisition of Topaz Labs (which we covered when it was first announced) is now complete.

With the deal now complete, the company says Topaz Labs will continue to operate as a standalone brand, but Adobe plans to bring its advanced capabilities directly into its creative tools and workflows, including Adobe Firefly, Photoshop, Premiere, and likely more.

Now that it’s complete, here’s what we know so far about what this acquisition means for Adobe and the doubled-down AI future.

Adobe Acquires Topaz Labs

As we covered when the deal was first announced, this is a pretty big acquisition for Adobe, at least in terms of its full embrace of AI video and image enhancement models and tools. It’s not the only AI news, of course, but it’s another brick in the new building that Adobe is building that is becoming more AI-aided and integrated.

Adobe isn’t the only major player in film, video, and other creative services doubling down. We’ve seen Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve add new AI assistant integration recently, and countless other new AI apps, tools, and features across all areas of production.

What’s perhaps most interesting is that, with this deal now complete, Adobe has already added Topaz Labs technology directly into Adobe Firefly and Photoshop, where users can enhance their images and videos while preserving the natural look and detail of the original.

The company’s proprietary Neurostream technology can also let creatives run complex AI models on their own devices or use Topaz Labs’ cloud-based option. Early results from this partnership have brought breakthroughs in restoring archival footage, refining low-light shots, enhancing mobile clips, and preparing content for the big screen.

What’s Next?

As you might guess, this partnership suggests that Adobe, like others, will continue to double down on AI tools and enhancements to speed up and improve creative workflows.

Some next-gen tech we’ll likely see includes new ways to bring AI-generated videos to professional quality through creative upscaling, which will soon be possible, as well as new ways for enterprises to transform legacy assets into ready-to-use content.

We’ll keep you posted on any other ways this acquisition could bring even more improvements or new features to Adobe’s popular video-focused apps like Premiere or After Effects in the future.

Author: Jourdan Aldredge
This article comes from No Film School and can be read on the original site.

The AI double down continues as companies in the film and video space are pushing more and more chips into the pot.
