Samyang announces world’s first AF cine lens for full-frame E-mount cameras

Samyang has announced the world’s first autofocus cine lens for full-frame E-mount camera systems, the 75mm T1.9 V-AF. The lens is the first of what will be five lenses in the series, which will eventually include 20mm, 24mm, 35mm and 45mm focal lengths as well by the end of 2023.

Samyang doesn’t share the optical construction of its 75mm T1.9 lens, but does state it has an image circle of 43.3mm and a minimum focusing distance of 69cm (27.2″). Samyang also notes it has 11.7% of focus breathing movement from infinity to one meter (3.3ft).

In addition to the integrated autofocus, the lens also have a ‘Focus Save’ function for recalling a specific focus point. This button can also be customized to perform different functions. There are also two tally lamps directly on the lens for indicating recording status of the camera it’s attached to.

The 75mm T1.9 shares the exact same filter thread, rotation angle of the focus ring and even the weight and dimensions of the other lenses that will eventually be in the lineup. Specifically, it features a 70mm front filter thread, uses a nine-blade aperture diaphragm, has a 300º focus ring throw and measures 72mm (2.8″) in diameter by 72mm (2.8″) long, weighing in at 280g (9.9oz).

Samyang also notes all five lenses will offer the optical resolution required for 8K video and says all of the lenses will have unified color tone throughout the range so there’s minimal variation when swapping out focal lengths on set.

The new V-AF 75mm T1.9 will be avaialble ‘soon’ for roughly $630, according to sources at IBC 2022.
