PlayStation Removing Purchased Movies from Customers’ Libraries Thanks to Licensing Disputes

This is the ultimate danger of digital media.

Have you bought a bunch of movies on your PlayStation that you like to watch? Well, if you live in Germany and Austria, your movies might be disappearing.

Sony said, starting in August, it will remove access to hundreds of movie titles from Studiocanal that customers previously purchased. Last year, Sony stopped the purchase and rental of movies and TV shows but said titles would remain available. Guess not!

PlayStation published a notice on its website:

“As of August 31, 2022, due to our evolving licensing agreements with content providers, you will no longer be able to view your previously purchased Studio Canal content and it will be removed from your video library. We greatly appreciate your continued support.”

Just how many movies are going? The list includes 314 movies in Germany and 137 in Austria. Titles include The Hunger Games series, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, the two Paddington films, the John Wick series, and more.
