CamFi 3 and 3 Plus wireless tethering devices promise improved speed, performance

CamFi has announced a pair of new ultrafast, wireless tethering devices, the CamFi 3 and the CamFi 3 Plus. CamFi says that the new products are suitable for ‘photographers needing remote support and for photographing architecture, news, sports and any outdoor needs.’ Whether in a studio or out in the field, the CamFi 3 Plus promises compelling features.

The CamFi 3 and 3 Plus tethering devices offer Auto View, raw image support, high-speed transfer, remote live view, focus stacking, and 4G LTE dongle support. CamFi supports USB 3.0 and delivers maximum wireless transfer speeds of up to 15Mb/s to a connected computer, tablet or smartphone. CamFi is compatible with macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. CamFi can be used on Wi-Fi or a 4G LTE network.

When using wireless tethering, photographers can take advantage of live view, touch focus, remote shooting and control over key camera settings. The wireless tethering mode also supports Sony’s focus stacking feature. CamFi 3 (Plus) includes an integrated SD card reader, so photographers can double backup their photos while tethered and send photos to a server, even when the camera is powered off.

CamFi 3 Plus supports more than 500 cameras from various manufacturers, including Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus (and presumably OM System), Panasonic, Pentax and Sony. The CamFi 3 Plus Wireless tethering works with popular photo editing applications like Lightroom and Capture One. CamFi 3 works with LP-E6 batteries.

The primary differentiator between the CamFi 3 and the CamFi 3 Plus comes down to camera and software support. Compared to the comprehensive support above, the regular CamFi 3 device supports just cameras from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon and Sony, and only supports CamFi native apps for tethering.
